Dr. Kim Morrison

The Full Story
From $30 at JFK to Empowering Pathways.
I landed in the U.S. with thirty dollars, an invitation to train in Texas, and a determination to serve. The journey since has been anything but linear—rejections, restarts, and hard-won lessons in a new culture.
In North Carolina’s semi-rural communities, I built a pediatric practice from scratch and spent decades caring for tens of thousands of children and families across every walk of life. We learned together: prevention matters, trust is earned, and the best outcomes happen when everyone has a role.

My mentors have shaped how I lead, and include but are not limited to:
Dr. Dennis Schellhase - Director CF clinic, Levine Children's Hospital, CLT, NC prev. at Baylor Scott & White.
Dr. Tom Jenike - Senior Vice President Novant Health, Family Practitioner, CLT, NC
Mr. Bill James - Previous CEO at Northern Regional Medical Center, Mt Airy, NC
Dr. Abe Kuruvilla- Professor and Dermatologist, Louisville, KY.
Dr. Hardy - Previous Head Pediatric Intensive Care at Baylor Scott and White, TX
Dr. Bess Gold - Previous Chair of Pediatrics at Baylor Scott & White.
Dr. Karen Olness - Professor Developmental Pediatrics at Rainbow Children's Hospital.
They modeled excellence without theatrics: do the right thing even when no one is watching; prepare selectively for the audience and environment; and remember that leading a system is like conducting an orchestra. The conductor doesn’t replace the first violinist; each part is different—and essential—to the performance.

I’ve served as Chief of Staff (Northern Regional Medical Center), on the Forsyth Medical Leadership Board, as a public health physician for Surry County, and in multiple project roles spanning finance, quality, market intelligence, and growth. Along the way, my family and I became proud American citizens—an act of gratitude to a community that welcomed us.

Empowering Pathways exists to pass those lessons forward: value-driven leadership, evidence over hype, and practical frameworks that help every role—from custodian to C-suite—see the pixel and the picture, and move together with purpose.
